Mission:

The mission of the Visual Resources Center is to support the visual needs of the College of Fine and Applied Arts through access, instruction, and support.

Slide Circulation Policy:

Slides may be checked out by all students and faculty at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a valid University ID. While slides can be checked out for up to three months, users are encouraged to return slides immediatly after use. If you are a first time user, the VRC staff would be happy to provide an orientation to the slide room. However, the staff will not pull slides for you. Slides may only be used for University of Illinois classes and lectures, and may not be used to generate income or profit. Slides may not be duplicated, but may be digitized for classroom use only.

Gift Policy:

This policy is intended to address donations of 35mm slides, as well as other visual materials that could be used for teaching purposes.

  1. Gifts recieved by the Visual Resources Center that are not added to the collection may be disposed of or donated to another educational institution. Donations that are not added to the collection may be returned.
  2. Donors are to be sent written acknowledgments in a timely fashion, unless they specifically request that no acknowledgment be made.
  3. Donors must sign and return an image release form before gifts are made accessable.
  4. The acceptance of gifts is based on the following criteria:
    • is the gift unique, or is it already available in an accessable format?
    • does the Visual Resources Center have the physical space to house the gift?
    • does the Visual Resources Center have the staff and resources to process the gift in a timely fashion?
    • does the gift require signifigant preservation treatment?
  5. A memorandum of understanding will be drawn up between the Visual Resources Center and the donor, describing the gift and processing plan
